I had a lovely day out on the fishing boat, whale watching with the meetup group folks. It was nice and warm until we got out into the channel on the water with the wind. Brrr, my paws were a bit frozen from holding up my camera -- had to be poised for the elusive gray whale. I guess once you spot them, they dive down for more than five minutes before they come up again.
We felt lucky to have so many whale sightings -- ten or more. So it was either 10 whales or 2 whales five times. I caught photos of the flukes four times after getting excited by the spouting. Wow. We really ooohed and aaahed with every steamy spout. What is it about these sea mammals that thrills us? They are huge! And they go on such a long journey from Mexico to Alaska. It is very cool to catch them on their way back with their calves in the channel between Long Beach/San Pedro area and Catalina Island.
I went out with a few people who wanted to get fish and chips after our tour at a little Irish pub in Long Beach. Of course they were gorging on fried food and I tried to be good. I had the grilled salmon salad and they had a low fat tomato basil salad dressing. While being good, I was very bad and ate some grilled bread. OMG, BREAD! It was nice to be out, but I was jealous of their waffle cut fries with Gorgonzola sauce. I lost one more pound this week for a total of 35 pounds. One and a half more pounds and I break the double century for the first time in probably 15 years.
